Award for Cheam Woodturners Association

The Association has been awarded £3000 by the Big Lottery Fund for the purchase of a new club lathe, chuck and accessories, specialist tools and a portable mains generator. The application was made by Andrew Griffiths and sponsored by Tony Kerslake, the Chairman of Sutton Arts Council, of which Cheam Woodturners Association is a member group.

This is an exciting achievement for the Association and is the result of many hours of hard work by the Chairman - supported by the members of the committee - that went into compiling a solid application. It means the Association will be able to offer its members a wider range of professional demonstrations and on hands-on evenings, members will be able to enjoy the benefits of an electronic variable speed lathe such as ease of control.

The MP for Sutton and Cheam, Paul Burstow, has written to the Chairman offering his congratulations and is keen to visit to see for himself its work and activities. Arrangements are being made for him to meet members at the social event in December when the new equipment is to be launched.
