A quick play at turning a Mushroom on my new Vicmarc VL300EVCM

Before I start work for the day

on my new Vicmarc VL300EVCM

By Gregory Moreton RPT

It's just a bar
This is a biggish lump of very wet Catalpa (Bean Tree) about 24in long and 21in in diameter (and nearly 50kg in water) doing about 60 revs Mushroom 1
Mushroom 2 Speeded up now to a more repectable 150 revs and the first half dozen buckets of shavings already full

Note how the turner has used his amply padded stomach to absorb some of the pounding on the tool. Also the use of some leather as thumb protection is welcome here.
Speeded up to a massive 300 revs note the use of a 3/4 inch bowl gouge for some very delecate control in the undercut Mushroom 3
Mushroom 4 One hour later and a few more shavings. A very nice lathe to use but at 30 buckets of shavings an hour theres a lot of clearing up time!

The finished product ready for my craft stall at £4.50 (or should that be £45.00 at the garden centre)
